Judo is an Olympic sport of Japanese origin. Prof. Jigoro Kano is believed to be its creator. He collected and systematised the techniques of old ju jitsu, and introduced new ones created by himself, giving them the form in which they are currently practiced in the world. However, judo is more than just throws or judo choking techniques. It is a sport, but also a system of physical education and martial arts, the aim of which is self-improvement.
Judo (ju – gentle and do – the way) means "gentle way". Both the translation of the name judo and the training itself under the supervision of an experienced instructor convinces that not strength and weight of the body, but speed and agility are decisive elements for success during the practice of judo techniques and in sports combat.
Judo, as one of the forms of physical education at the University of Lodz, is a proposal for all students who are interested in martial arts. The classes start from scratch, so no skills or predispositions are required.
A large number of exercises shaping all physical characteristics helps in mastering combat techniques and improves overall physical fitness. Judo develops agility, speed, endurance and strength, as well as perceptiveness, self-control, courage, concentration, perseverance and resilience.
During the classes, both people who are looking for a way to self-improve and those who like competition will be able to realise themselves. For those who are interested, there is an opportunity to obtain training degrees in judo and compete with students from other universities representing similar skills.
Judo classes take place in a room professionally prepared for this purpose. The room is equipped with a mat (tatami) and equipment to facilitate learning judo techniques (soft mattresses, rubbers, ladders).
The class instructors are experienced trainers with high training degrees in judo and numerous sports successes.
The classes are addressed to all students, both women and men.
They take place at Tamka 12.
